  Founded in 1896, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) is one of the internationally recognized, top-tier research universities in China, with strong commitment to nurturing future leaders with innovative drives and global visions.   Application Periods

  · Early Admission- November 1, 2019~December 20, 2019 (Beijing Time, GMT+8)

  · Deadline for Entrance Test- March 2, 2020 (Beijing Time, GMT+8)

  · Deadline for Regular Application:-April 30, 2020 (Beijing Time, GMT+8)

  Online Application

  Applicants should apply via SJTU online application system (http://apply.sjtu.edu.cn). Application system is only available within the application periods mentioned above.

  Eligibility

  1. Non-Chinese citizen, foreign passport holders, with senior high school diploma (or equivalent);

  2. Applicants who have emigrated from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan to other countries should meet the conditions set by the “Document No. 83 (2009) of Ministry of Education of the PRC”.

  Application Materials

  1. Senior high school diploma or equivalent (2020 graduating students should provide an official statement from your high school as proof of graduation) ;

  2. High school transcripts, including all courses taken;

  3. Photocopy of valid passport;

  4. Personal statement (in Chinses or English, with signature);

  5. Recommendation letter (in Chinese or English, with signature);

  6. Award certificates;

  7. Applicants under 18 years old (until Sep.1, 2020) should provide a Guardian's Letter of Guarantee;

  8. Other supportive materials required by SJTU.

  Note: Materials listed in term NO. 1, 2 in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.

  Requirements for Applying Exemption from Entrance Test

  Students who wish to apply for exemption from the entrance exam should provide the following certificates.

  1. Academic certificate: relevant international test scores recognized by SJTU (at least one of the following).

  Received IB Certificate. Attended at least 3HL and 3SL courses. Courses that were taken must be related to the major you wish to apply to. Total points ≥ 35, each course must be ≥ 5

  Attended at least 3 A-level courses, must include Math and two relevant courses related to the major you wish to apply to. Received grade A for at least two subjects.

  Other equivalent certificates that can prove your academic proficiency (national high school graduation Exam or college entrance exam

  Engineering & Science

  SAT score ≥ 1300(Math ≥ 650)

  ACT score ≥ 27(Math ≥ 27)

  Received IB Certificate. Attended at least 3 HL and 3 SL courses. HL courses must include Math≥6. Courses that were taken must be related to the major you wish to apply to. Total points ≥ 36, each course must be ≥ 5.

  Economics & Management

  2. Chinese language certificate: HSK level 5 (≥180 scores) or above, or equivalent certificates recognized by SJTU;

  3. English language certificate: TOEFL (iBT) -80 or above, IELTS- 5.5 or above, or equivalent certificates recognized by SJTU.

  Note: ① Applicants who cannot provide all the certificates listed in term NO. 1, 2, 3, should take the entrance test instead. ② The valid time of the certificates listed above is two years. ③ Applicants who are not qualified with the Chinese language requirement but have excellent academic performance can choose to have one year of Chinese language study when completing the online application form. Once admitted, students will study Chinese language in the assigned school for one year. Those who can finally pass the final examination can be enrolled into undergraduate program.

  Entrance Test

  Applicants who cannot provide the certificates listed above need to take the entrance test instead.

  3. Test Subjects

  Chinese (100 scores), English (100 scores), Math (100 scores)

  Note: ①All the tests are closed-book, and in Chinese; ②Math test will be divided into two categories, Math of Science and Math of Liberal Arts. Students applying for majors of Engineering, Science or Antai College need to take Math test of Science. For the Major of Chinese language, math score will not be included in the total score, but will be reckoned in the scholarship evaluation.

  4. Admission Ticket Printing

  The admission ticket can be printed out from the application system after the applicants pass the qualification review.

  Interview

  Applicants who are qualified with the entrance requirements or have passed the entrance test are required to attend an interview. Details about the interview will be informed at our office website (http://isc.sjtu.edu.cn) or sent by email.

  Admission

  The admission decision is based on a comprehensive evaluation of applicants’ academic and interview performance. Applicants can check their admission result in the application system within one month after the interview. Students should then pay tuition and confirm the enrollment within two weeks. The admission package will be sent to the admitted applicants at the end of June. SJTU will review all students’ original application materials on the registration day and reserve the right to cancel students’ admission if there are any irregularities.

  Scholarship

  Excellent applicants have chance to be awarded different kinds of scholarships, such as Chinese Government Scholarship, Shanghai Government Scholarship, SJTU Scholarship and others.

  · Students applying for CSC Scholarship(Chinese Government Scholarship) should contact directly with the local Chinese Embassy or Consulate. The application period is usually from November 2019 to April 2020 (varied from country to country). When completing the scholarship application form, the applicant should select Shanghai Jiao Tong University as the first priority. We strongly suggest that students must be admitted by SJTU before submitting CSC application.

  · Students applying for other scholarships can click the option “Apply for scholarship” when completing SJTU’s online application form, and will have chance to be awarded the following scholarship:

  Second-Class Scholarship

  Period:4 years

  Covers tuition, accommodation subsidy (1,000 CNY per month), insurance

  Third-Class Scholarship

  Period:4 years

  Covers accommodation subsidy (1,000 CNY per month), insurance

  Term begins

  In early September (the specific time will be informed on the admission letter)

  Fees

  Application Fee: CNY 800 (nonrefundable)

  Tuition: CNY24, 800/Year

  Insurance: CNY 800/Year (The relevant regulations by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and the Management Regulations for International Student of SJTU require all international students with study duration over 6 months to purchase the Group Comprehensive Insurance in Mainland China.)
