Why HUST

Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) is a national comprehensive university, ranking among the Top 10 in China and the Top 200 in the world. Located in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei Province, HUST, known as “the University in the Forest” with a 72% greenery coverage, covers an area of over 460 hectares. HUST faculty are devoted to fusing the humanities with the sciences and are dedicated to nurturing multi-talented individuals globally.

HUST offers its students first-class services, quality education, and abundant library resources. At present, there are around 55,000 students registered on campus, out of which 3,400 are international students from 155 countries. HUST ranked number 1 nationally for enrollment of post-graduate candidates for Chinese Government Scholarships.

Since 1952 when it was founded, HUST and its faculty have been devoted to the development of a dynamic and innovative comprehensive university. At present, HUST has 40 academic schools offering a variety of degree programs, including 99 undergraduate programs, 202 master programs, and 189 doctoral programs. Among all these programs, 5 undergraduate programs, 81 master’s programs, and 87 doctoral programs can be instructed in English. Eighty-five percent of the international degree students are registered in the English-medium programs.

International Education of HUST

HUST has established partnerships with more than 100 renowned universities and research institutions worldwide. Over 1,500 scholars and experts visit and lecture here annually. Since 2013 the campus has welcomed several Nobel Laureates including Prof. Alan J. Heeger, the Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, and Prof. Klaus von Klitzing, German Nobel Prize winner in Physics.

HUST has been accepting international students studying in China since the 1960s. For nearly 60 years, it has cultivated more than 10000 international students of various majors from more than 150 countries and regions. Most of them have obtained a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or doctoral degree conferred by HUST. They have become outstanding engineers and technicians, famous medical experts, university professors, government administrators, or politicians after graduation. International alumni have played a vital role in promoting cooperation between China and their home country.

Research in HUST

HUST is proud of her national laboratory-- “Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics”(one of the six national labs in China), the National Science Center-- “Wuhan National High Magnetic Field Center”, High-Precision Gravity Measurement Center, and the National Manufacturing Innovation Center-- National Innovation Institute of Digital Design and Manufacturing.
