Beijing Normal University (BNU), directly subordinate to the administration of Ministry of Education, is a comprehensive and research-oriented key university renowned for teacher education. BNU ranks at the top of Chinese Colleges and Universities in terms of its disciplinary superiority. According to the First Tier Disciplines Evaluation released by China Academic Degrees & Graduate Education Development Center, six first tier disciplines including Education, Psychology, Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History, Drama, Film and Television, and Geography are awarded A+. And, Education, Psychology, Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History, Mathematics, Geography, Systematic Science, Ecology, Environmental Science and Engineering, Drama, Film and Television, and Linguistics are listed on the “Double First-Class” Construction Disciplines of Ministry of Education.
Rich in famous teachers and educational resources, BNU has long been an important base to cultivate high-quality and innovative candidates/students/learners and researchers. At present, the university has 2 national talent training and scientific research bases for basic arts disciplines, 5 national training bases for basic science research and teaching talents, and 1 national pilot college, which has been selected into the national experimental plan for training top-notch students in basic disciplines. Beijing Normal University is the national cultural quality education base for college students, the national training base for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language talent, the national training base for Life Science and Technology talent, and the traditional Chinese culture heritage base of the Ministry of Education (Chinese Drama). The school also has 4 national experimental teaching demonstration centers, 2 national virtual simulation experimental teaching centers, 5 innovative experimental zones for talent training mode of the Ministry of education, and 2 national training bases for excellent legal talents.
BNU devotes to global cooperation and communication, enhancing students’ international vision and competence. BNU connects with famous universities and research institutions among America, Europe, Asia and Australia, and continues to promote academic cooperation with world-class universities such as Stanford University, Oxford University and University of Helsinki. Beijing Normal University cooperates with nearly 300 well-known overseas universities, including the University of California in the United States, Manchester University in the United Kingdom, Leiden University in the Holland, University of Zurich in Switzerland, University of Munich in Germany, University of New South Wales in Australia, Waseda University in Japan, Seoul National University in South Korea, Nanyang Technology University in Singapore and Moscow State University in Russia in various forms: student exchange, visiting, joint training, double degree programs and short-term projects. Meanwhile, BNU actively develops education cooperation with “one belt, one road” countries to promote cultural exchanges.
After 1960s, Beijing Normal University was one of the earliest Chinese universities to launch international education program. At present, there are 37 bachelor degree programs, 80 master degree programs and more than 65 Ph.D. programs recruiting international students. BNU develops a variety of advanced programs to provide international students up to one academic year learning opportunities. In addition, a variety of short-term programs have been set up to provide overseas students with rich opportunities for professional learning and cultural experience.
As an important administrative department of BNU, Provost’s Office and Academic Affairs (graduate school) accounts for the management of undergraduate and postgraduate personnel training. Subordinates are Admission Office, Training Office, Teaching Quality Office (Degree Evaluation Committee Office), Teaching Resources Office and Comprehensive Office.
Overall, Admission Office of Provost’s Office and Academic Affairs is responsible for the enrollment of undergraduates, postgraduates and international students. Specifically, international student admission work includes compilation of major catalogue of academic and non-academic students, release of enrollment information, review of application materials, the organization of examination and management of student enrollment.
