Chinese Government Scholarship Scheme 2023/2024 (Long-term)

  Chinese Government Scholarships (CGS) enable outstanding students, teachers and scholars from all over the world to study and conduct research in China. Aiming at supporting cooperation and exchanges, we are looking forward to welcoming people who are passionate, insightful, and willing to devote themselves to promoting mutual understanding and providing solutions, so as to create a better shared future for mankind.

  The CGS sponsors 4 categories: undergraduate, postgraduate (master’s and doctoral students), general scholars and senior scholars. By providing funding which include tuition, accommodation, stipend and medical insurance, it allows scholarship holders to study or research in a wide variety of academic programs in 289 Chinese universities.

  With the CGS, you will not only develop your academic knowledge and professional skills, extend your network through meeting with people from different civilizations and building long-lasting relationships, but also experience Chinese profound history and splendid culture, equip yourself with necessary abilities which may lead you to a promising future.

  Eligibility:

  To be eligible, applicants must:

  ·be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China, and be in good health both mentally and physically.

  ·be a high school graduate under the age of 25 when applying for undergraduate programs;

  ·be a bachelor’s degree holder under the age of 35 when applying for master’s programs;

  ·be a master’s degree holder under the age of 40 when applying for doctoral programs;

  ·be a high school graduate (at least) under the age of 45 when applying for general scholar programs;

  ·be a master’s degree holder or an associate professor (or above) under the age of 50 when applying for senior scholar programs.

  Language requirements:

  CGS Applicants can apply for either the Chinese-taught programs or the English-taught programs if applicable.

  1. Applicants who apply for bachelor’s degree programs, general scholar programs or senior scholar programs need to have a valid HSK3 (or above levels) certificate. And the ones who apply for master’s or doctoral degree programs need to have a valid HSK4 (or above levels) certificate. Please NOTE that HSK results are valid for 2 years.

  2. No Chinese proficiency requirements is applied to general scholar applicants who apply to study the Chinese language program at the host university.

  3. Scholarship recipients of Chinese-taught programs, who achieved the above-mentioned language requirements but yet for short of adequate Chinese proficiency required by the subject of the host university, need to take up to one-year preparatory courses before moving on to their major studies. Failure to reach the required language proficiency will lead to the automatic termination of scholarship.

  4. Scholarship recipients of the English-taught programs and those with adequate Chinese language proficiency do not need to take preparatory Chinese language courses.

  Duration

  CGS sponsors both major study and Chinese language / preparatory study. The duration of each category is as follows:

  NOTE:

  1. Tuition waiver: Tuition funds will be comprehensively used by the host university. It may cover scholarship students’ education, administration costs and expenditures to support student activities.

  2. Accommodation: If the host university requires students to live on campus, the university will accommodate the scholarship students in a university dormitory (usually a twins-room). If the host university permits students to live off campus, the university will provide monthly / quarterly accommodation subsidy accordingly.

  3. Stipend: Within the scholarship duration, registered scholarship holders will receive a stipend from their host university each month. Those registering on or before the 15th of the month will receive a full stipend of that month. Those who register after the 15th of the month will receive a half stipend of that month. Graduating students will receive stipend until half month after the graduation date. If registered student stays out of China for more than 15 days due to a personal reason (school holidays excluded), his/her stipend will be suspended during his/her leaving.

  5. Field of study categories:

   Field of Study I includes Philosophy, Economics, Legal Studies, Education, Literature (Fine Arts excluded), History, and Management;

   Field of Study II includes Science, Engineering, and Agriculture;

   Field of Study III includes Fine Arts and Medicine.

  6. Above is the current standard of Chinese Government Scholarship. New standard shall apply in case of policy adjustment.

  Application Deadline

  The deadline for application to Chinese Government Scholarship 2023/2024 is 25th February, 2023.
